Physics 201: Waves And Optics


Course Outline

Oscillators: simple harmonic, physical, damped driven, and coupled.

Continua: the wave equation, standing waves, traveling waves, dispersion, reflection, and transmission.

Electromagnetic Waves: plane waves, Fresnel Equations, polarization, and coherence.

Geometrical Optics: Huygens-Fresnel principle, Fermat’s principle, and imaging systems.

Physical Optics: interference and diffraction.

Quantum Optics: photons and wave-particle duality.
